Templates can prepare the outgoing message and related settings for a common action supported by the selected interface.
DeviceJockey Guide
Templates
Start with settings for a common case, then adapt them to your own device and workflow.
Core concept
Templates provide settings you can edit.
A Template supplies a useful starting configuration for a standard function. Depending on where it is used, DeviceJockey can prefill paths, messages, JSON, value types, ranges, dynamic attributes, or other related settings. After selecting it, review every value and change anything required by your system.
Open Templates
Where the Template button is available, select it to open the prepared functions for that setting.
Receive prepared settings
DeviceJockey fills the fields that belong together for that standard case.
Review and adapt
Change names, paths, values, ranges, JSON, or other settings before saving and testing.
A Template reduces repetitive setup and provides valid structure. It cannot know every name, address, range, or behavior required by your individual system.
Where templates appear
The same workflow supports different parts of DeviceJockey.
Templates or prepared function choices can fill the incoming path, value type, range, matching values, and other settings used to update an Item.
Selecting a controller function fills the Local Interface path, value type, and suitable defaults for that physical control and Event behavior.
An interface may provide specialized lists, such as OBS Request Templates or OSC path functions, because each protocol needs different settings.
What to check
Confirm the values that identify your system.
Replace example scene names, input names, OSC paths, device identifiers, topics, or other target-specific values.
Confirm that Boolean, integer, floating-point, or string values and their minimum and maximum match the target and Item.
Check which attribute or argument receives a changing Item value or supplies an incoming value to the Item.
Review generated JSON or protocol data and keep, remove, or change fields as required.
Save the edited configuration and verify the Command or Event with the real device, application, or controller.
Interface example
OBS Request Templates generate editable JSON.
In an OBS Value or OBS Range Command, open Request Templates and choose an OBS function. DeviceJockey generates the request JSON. Range Templates can also prefill the Dynamic Value Attribute, value type, Minimum, and Maximum. You then enter the exact scene, input, or other values used by your OBS setup.
