App Privacy Policy

How data is handled when you use the DeviceJockey app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Scope of this policy

This policy applies to the DeviceJockey app. The separatewebsite privacy policy applies when you visit devicejockey.de.

Privacy at a glance

DeviceJockey does not require an account. The app contains no advertising and does not use an analytics or advertising SDK operated by DeviceJockey. DeviceJockey does not track you across apps or websites and does not sell personal data.

Your configurations are stored on your device. The app communicates with other devices, applications, and services only when this is required for a function you configure or start. DeviceJockey does not operate an intermediary cloud service for these connections.

On your device

Scenes, panels, items, and settings

Scenes, panels, items, macros, swaps, interface configurations, media, and app settings are stored locally on your device. DeviceJockey does not receive this data. You can delete individual configurations in the app. Deleting the app removes its local app data, subject to any device backups managed through Apple or another service you use.

Passwords, API keys, and certificates

Credentials entered for supported interfaces, including passwords and API keys, are stored in the Apple Keychain on your device. Depending on the interface, certificates, public-key pins, and client identities may also be stored there. They are used only to establish the connection you configured. Deleting the relevant interface removes its associated credentials from the app's Keychain storage.

Import and export

You can import and export DeviceJockey configurations. Export files contain the configuration in readable, unencrypted XML format. Passwords and API keys are not exported and must be entered again after an import. Anyone who can access an export file may be able to read the other configuration details it contains. Choose a secure location and sharing method for these files.

The Apple system file picker lets you choose where an import or export file is opened or saved. If you use iCloud Drive or another file provider, that provider processes the file under its own privacy terms.

Connections you control

Interfaces and network communication

Interfaces connect DeviceJockey directly to devices, applications, or services selected by you. Depending on the interface, the configuration and transmitted data may include host names or IP addresses, port numbers, user names, device or application names, topics, paths, commands, events, and control values.

The destination receives technical connection data such as your IP address and the messages required by the selected protocol. DeviceJockey does not receive or relay this traffic. You determine the destination and purpose of each connection. The privacy terms and security settings of the connected system apply.

Local network and Bluetooth

With your permission, DeviceJockey uses the local network to discover and connect to compatible devices and software. Bluetooth access is used for Bluetooth MIDI connections. These permissions are requested by the operating system and can be changed in the device settings.

Web Views and remote media

A Web View item or remote media item can load an address configured by you. Opening that address creates a direct connection to its provider. The provider may process your IP address, browser and device data, cookies, or similar storage. DeviceJockey neither selects nor controls these destinations. You can clear Web View website data from within the app.

Optional access

Camera and QR codes

Camera access is requested only if you choose to scan a QR code while setting up an interface. Camera images are processed on the device for recognition. DeviceJockey uses the decoded QR code content for the configuration and does not upload the camera image.

Photos and media

Photo library access is requested only if you choose an image for an item on a panel. The selected image becomes part of your local DeviceJockey configuration. It is not uploaded to DeviceJockey. If you export a configuration containing media and then share it, the recipient of that file can receive the included media.

Beta testing

Apple TestFlight

If you install a beta version through Apple TestFlight, Apple automatically collects beta usage information and crash logs and shares them with the app provider. This can include app and build versions, device and operating system details, sessions, crash information, and, depending on the invitation method, your name and email address. If you submit feedback, Apple may also share your comments, screenshots, and related technical information.

We use information made available through TestFlight only to administer beta testing, diagnose errors, and improve DeviceJockey. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interests are reliable beta testing and improving the stability and functionality of the app. TestFlight information is kept only as long as needed for these purposes and is also subject to Apple's retention rules.

Apple operates TestFlight and processes data under its own responsibility. Details, including the data fields and retention periods used by Apple, are available inApple's TestFlight privacy information.

Your rights

Retention and recipients

Locally stored app data remains on your device until you delete it. DeviceJockey has no access to data that remains exclusively on your device. Recipients of data can be Apple when you use TestFlight or Apple system services, a file provider selected by you, and devices, applications, or services to which you configure a connection.

Data protection rights

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have the right to:

request access to your personal data under Article 15 GDPR;
request rectification of inaccurate data under Article 16 GDPR;
request erasure under Article 17 GDPR;
request restriction of processing under Article 18 GDPR;
receive data you provided in a portable format under Article 20 GDPR;
object to processing based on legitimate interests under Article 21 GDPR; and
withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future under Article 7(3) GDPR.

To exercise these rights, contact info@devicejockey.de. If the requested information exists only on your device or with a service selected by you, DeviceJockey cannot retrieve it. You may need to use the controls on your device or contact that service directly.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority under Article 77 GDPR. The authority responsible in Hamburg is theHamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

Automated decisions

DeviceJockey does not use automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, its integrations, or legal requirements change. The version published on this page is the current version.
